THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) conducted an information campaign on ENR laws in Zamboanga del Sur to gain the support of residents in protecting the environment.

Rosevirico Tan, DENR’s regional information officer, said the information campaign was carried out by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) of Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, in the village of Balongbalong , municipality of Pitogo.

Tan said the campaign held last week was part of Cenro-Guipos’ aligned activities in line with the celebration of Philippine Earth Month 2022 in April.

Tan said Cenro-Guipos staff presented and discussed environmental laws, especially those related to tree felling, transportation of forest products, the Chainsaw Registration Law, as well as the conservation and protection of wildlife resources.

“These topics were discussed to raise awareness and to mobilize our citizens in protecting and conserving our environment and natural resources,” Tan said.

He said that Cenro-Guipos also included in the Gender and Development Information Campaign (GAD), where the specific Sexual Harassment Law or “Bawal Bastos Bill” was highlighted.

He said that various activities that will further engage the public in respecting this celebration will still be carried out throughout the month, such as clean-up, information, education and communication campaigns and many others.

The DENR urged the public to join all environmental activities in their localities for this celebration and together let’s “invest in our planet”. (SunStar Zamboanga)
