Ogun seals 2 companies for violating environmental laws

The Ogun State government has sealed off two companies: Buildwell Plants and Equipment Limited and Katchey Laboratories, for construction on a canal and on a floodplain respectively.

The government said the companies’ actions were causing excessive flooding and other environmental offenses in their immediate communities.

The Environmental Commissioner, Mr. Ola Oresanya, ordered the sealing of the businesses after an on-site assessment visit to the Magada, Redstar, Wemabod and Sparklight OPIC Estate communities in the Magboro area of ​​the Obafemi-Owode LGA.

While Buildwell Plants and Equipment Limited was found guilty of building over a canal and fencing the canal inwards to their enclosure, Katchey Laboratories filled a floodplain with sand, built it and also fenced it , causing excessive flooding in four communities.

In sealing the companies, the commissioner swore that the state government would not fold its hands and look at the irresponsible and man-made environmental infractions by the two companies that had affected the well-being of residents of the communities. .

He said, “The state government will not tolerate these violations. As a responsible government, the welfare of our people comes before the pecuniary gains of a few individuals; because any company that harms the well-being of our employees will see our other side.

The other companies were warned that the state government would not tolerate any environmental violations, saying the law would inflict all the wrath on them.

To bring immediate relief to the affected communities, he said the state government would dredge all the channels of the communities to increase their carrying capacities.
